Rick and Morty is taking shots at Superman! The shows latest parody features Zack Snyder and James Gunn discussing the upcoming reboot- as themselves!
Ever since initially making their marks on the DC Universe, neither James Gunn or Zack Snyder have been shy about appearing in animated forms to talk smack about their projects. Snyder infamously appeared on Teen Titans Go! to mock the edge of his incarnation of Superman, and Gunn appeared as himself in the Harley Quinn show to literally sit on Clayface’s face.
The two directors are continuing their streak of self-parody in Rick and Morty. The two made cameos in the latest episode of the adult sitcom, during which their animated selves met in the Warner Bros. Discovery lunch line to talk about Superman. Much of the clip focuses on Zack Snyder’s bulging muscles, telling James Gunn to cut back on the talking in his upcoming film.

How Rick And Morty Effects The DC Universe
While some fans are (hopefully jokingly) using this as proof that Zack Snyder may make his return to the DC Universe, there is some actual speculation that can be borne from this clip. Namely, that it seems Warner Bros. Discovery is more than fine connecting their creative teams to try to promote massive projects like James Gunn’s upcoming Superman film.
Given Rick And Morty writers have appeared all across the MCU in recent years, it’s more likely this signals members of their staff jumping over to the DC Universe than Zack Snyder making his return. James Gunn has always been a fan of working with his friends, so if this crossover went well, it may not be farfetched to see a Superman animated series produced by Dan Harmon!
Superman is currently scheduled to hit theaters on July 11, 2025. Stay tuned for the latest news regarding the future of the DC Universe and make sure to subscribe to our YouTube channel for more content!
