A new trailer for Amazon’s upcoming Lord of the Rings prequel series, The Rings of Power teases the beginnings of Sauron’s rise to power.
The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power arrives on Amazon Prime Video this September and will explore Middle-Earth during the Second Age, thousands of years before the events of The Lord of the Rings.
The series is set to explore the forging of the titular rings, which were gifted by Sauron to the rulers of Middle-Earth. The new trailer introduces the realms of Elves, Men, Dwarves and Harfoots – the ancestors of Hobbits.
Enter The Second Age
The new trailer establishes central figures in each of Middle-Earth’s races, particularly Markella Kavenagh’s Elanor ‘Nori’ Brandyfoot and Morfydd Clark’s Galadriel.
It also re-establishes the comet that strikes Middle-Earth, as seen in the previous teaser trailer for The Rings of Power. While the role this collision will have in the series is not yet clear, it is evident that this event will help bring together characters from all corners of Tolkien’s world.

Scenes of fiery destruction tease the coming conflicts and the final shot, of a group of Harfoots setting out towards new horizons, echoes the adventures of Hobbits seen in The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings.
Here is the synopsis for the upcoming series:
This epic drama is set thousands of years before the events of J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings, and will take viewers back to an era in which great powers were forged, kingdoms rose to glory and fell to ruin, unlikely heroes were tested, hope hung by the finest of threads, and the greatest villain that ever flowed from Tolkien’s pen threatened to cover all the world in darkness. Beginning in a time of relative peace, the series follows an ensemble cast of characters, both familiar and new, as they confront the long-feared re-emergence of evil to Middle-earth. From the darkest depths of the Misty Mountains, to the majestic forests of the elf-capital of Lindon, to the breathtaking island kingdom of Númenor, to the furthest reaches of the map, these kingdoms and characters will carve out legacies that live on long after they are gone.
Amazon Studios is producing The Rings of Power in cooperation with the Tolkien Estate and Trust, HarperCollins, and New Line Cinema. J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay are serving as showrunners and executive producers on the series.
The ensemble for the show consists of Robert Aramayo, Owain Arthur, Nazanin Boniadi, Tom Budge, Morfydd Clark, Ismael Cruz Córdova, Ema Horvath, Markella Kavenagh, Joseph Mawle, Tyroe Muhafidin, Sophia Nomvete, Megan Richards, Dylan Smith, Charlie Vickers, and Daniel Weyman.
