Avengers: Endgame directors Joe and Anthony Russo think Robert Downey Jr. deserves some awards recognition for his final outing as Iron Man.
Not only did Robert Downey Jr.’s contract to play Iron Man expire with the fourth Avengers film, Endgame saw the demise of the Marvel hero after he sacrificed himself to defeat Thanos once and for all. Director Joe Russo explained to Backstory Magazine why he thinks Robert Downey Jr. gave an “awards-caliber performance” specifically in Iron Man’s final moments in the film:
“What’s so incredible about Robert Downey and his performance — and we think this is an awards-caliber performance — is when he looks at Benedict in that moment, what you see happen on his face and the way he just drops his eyes and receives the information, it’s because he knows he’s the solution and the solution involves snapping his fingers — he’s going to die. The thing he wanted to preserve two hours earlier in the movie is his relationship with his daughter, and he will have to sacrifice that in order to save everyone else.”
So what do you think? Does Robert Downey Jr. deserve some awards recognition for his final performance as Iron Man in Avengers: Endgame? Let us know in the comments below!
