Robert Downey Jr. is officially coming back to the Marvel Cinematic Universe! The actor is set to return as Doctor Doom in the upcoming project Avengers: Doomsday.
As Marvel wraps up its multiverse saga, Marvel fans have been expecting Robert Downey Jr. to make his return as Iron Man. However, nobody saw his Marvel return coming in this form. While most expected him to come back as Tony Stark, Marvel has announced that he’ll instead be playing Doctor Doom.
Avengers 5, now titled Avengers: Doomsday, is officially set to feature to return of Robert Downey Jr. to the MCU. Yet instead of playing Iron Man, the beloved actor will be playing a multiversal variant of the character that turned into Doctor Doom.
The Russo Brothers are directing Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars
During the Marvel Studios panel, Kevin Feige announced that Joe and Anthony Russo are returning to the Marvel Cinematic Universe to direct Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars. The duo previously helmed four of Marvel’s biggest movies — Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Captain America: Civil War, Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame.
The official logos for Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars were also revealed at the panel.
