Joe Manganiello’s future as Deathstroke is currently in doubt. When Ben Affleck was still attached to The Batman as the film’s director, co-writer and star, Joe Manganiello was set to serve as the film’s primary antagonist as Deathstroke. These plans were eventually scrapped after Affleck’s exit and Matt Reeves coming into the picture, penning a brand new script from scratch.
Joe Manganiello was last seen as Deathstroke in one of the post-credits scenes of Zack Snyde’s DC Comics team-up movie Justice League. During the scene, Deathstroke is shown meeting with Lex Luthor (played by Jesse Eisenberg) to discuss the formation of a team to take on the Justice League.

Plot details for Warner Bros. and DC’s The Batman are being kept under lock and key. Previous rumors once pointed to an earlier version of The Batman featuring Ben Affleck bookending the film as his current Batman while the film introduced a younger version of the Dark Knight. But with Ben Affleck officially retired from the role, Robert Pattinson has officially replaced the Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Justice League actor in the role.
While details are slim, The Batman director Matt Reeves has confirmed that his film featuring Robert Pattinson is not based on Frank Miller’s acclaimed Year One comic and will emphasize Batman as the world’s greatest detective more than previous films have in the past. Filming is expected to begin early next year.
The Batman is currently slated to hit theaters on June 25, 2021. Stay tuned for the latest news on Robert Pattinson’s Batman, Joe Manganiello’s Deathstroke and the future of the DC Extended Universe!
