Robert Pattinson On Playing Batman: “It’s Kind Of Insane”

Earlier this year, The Batman director Matt Reeves announced that Robert Pattinson has been cast as Bruce Wayne for his upcoming DC Comics movie, replacing Ben Affleck. It’s been four month since his casting, but Robert Pattinson still can’t believe he landed the gig.

Speaking with Esquire for the cover story of the magazine’s lattest issue, Robert Pattinson discussed his casting as Batman, saying “it’s kind of insane.” Here’s everything  else he had to say on the matter:

“I was so far away from ever thinking it was a realistic prospect. I literally do not understand how I’ve got it, at all.”

Robert Pattinson won’t get to suit up as Batman until next year, as he’s currently working on another project, Tenet, which is being directed by Christopher Nolan, the man behind the Dark Knight trilogy with Christian Bale. The Batman will begin production in early 2020.

Plot details for The Batman are being kept under wraps. Previous rumors once pointed to an earlier version of the script featuring Ben Affleck bookending the movie as his current Batman while it introduced a younger version of the iconic character, played by Robert Pattinson. But with Ben Affleck retired from the role, Robert Pattinson has officially replaced the Batman v Superman and Justice League star as Batman.

While details are slim, Matt Reeves has confirmed that his movie is not based on Frank Miller’s Year One comic and will emphasize the hero as the world’s greatest detective more than previous films have in the past. It is expected to be the first chapter in a new Batman trilogy starring Robert Pattinson.

The Batman arrives in theaters on June 25, 2021. Stay tuned for the latest news on Robert Pattinson and the future of the DC Extended Universe.
