The release date for Robert Pattinson’s The Batman could be pushed back due to the production pause caused by the coronavirus pandemic.
In order to protect the cast and crew of their various projects and slow the spread of the coronavirus, studios have been forced to shut down or postpone production on multiple projects amid the escalating pandemic. While Warner Bros. had initially opted to pause production on The Batman for two weeks, director Matt Reeves recently revealed filming will be delayed until it is safe for everyone to resume working.
Scheduled for a theatrical release on in June of next year, the Robert Pattinson film had already been filming for seven weeks by the time the coronavirus pandemic forced production to stop. Today, Variety reports that while it is still possible for The Batman to hit theaters on its scheduled release date, it is “more likely” that the film will be pushed back.
In an article examining the impact the coronavirus pandemic is having on Hollywood productions, Variety notes that most studios are letting their representatives and talent know that the postponed projects are not expected to resume production until mid-May, at the earliest. However, the outlet adds that the mid-May projection could be “overly optimistic” due to the fact that the coronavirus pandemic is not expected to peak in areas such as New York City and other major production locations until the end of April.
Full plot details on The Batman are currently under wraps, though the film will center around a younger Bruce Wayne and feature a Rogues’ Gallery of villains that includes Catwoman, The Penguin, and The Riddler. The Matt Reeves film will follow the Caped Crusader during his formative years as Gotham City’s protector and will make use of the Dark Knight’s detective skills to a greater extent than previous DC films. It is expected to be the first chapter in a new trilogy with Robert Pattinson as Batman.

The Batman is currently scheduled to be released in theaters on June 25, 2021.
