Matt Reeves’ The Batman features a nod to a beloved Robert Pattinson performance!

The Batman opened to critical and commercial acclaim this weekend! Grossing over $128 million at the domestic box office, Matt Reeves’ DC debut is on track to be one of the biggest films of the year. The highly-anticipated DC reboot proved that it was worth the wait, taking audiences on a journey through the seedy streets of Gotham with a brooding, inexperienced Caped Crusader trying to unravel a mystery with huge ramifications.

One of the biggest praises the film has received is Robert Pattinson’s performance. While many were wary of Pattinson stepping into the role of The Dark Knight, the star proved himself over the last few years by winning over audiences with indie projects such as Cosmopolis, High Life, and The Lighthouse. The star most recently appeared in Christopher Nolan’s Tenet, where he was singled out for his impressive performance as John David Washington’s second-in-command.

Banking on Robert Pattinson to be the star for DC’s latest take on the franchise was a huge gamble but Matt Reeves took the risk after seeing the star in Good Time, a 2017 crime thriller that shares the same grimy and unsettling aesthetic of The Batman.

It turns out that Matt Reeves was so enamored with the film and Robert Pattinson’s performance in it that he referenced the Safdie Brothers project in The Batman. Eagle-eyed fans have noted that the convenience store seen in the film’s opening moments is titled “Good Times”, an obvious nod to the 2017 cult classic.

If you haven’t seen the unsettling and anxiety-inducing Good Time, here’s your Batsignal to watch it!

Here is the synopsis for Robert Pattinson’s The Batman:

Two years of stalking the streets as the Batman (Robert Pattinson), striking fear into the hearts of criminals, has led Bruce Wayne deep into the shadows of Gotham City. With only a few trusted allies — Alfred Pennyworth (Andy Serkis), Lt. James Gordon (Jeffrey Wright) — amongst the city’s corrupt network of officials and high-profile figures, the lone vigilante has established himself as the sole embodiment of vengeance amongst his fellow citizens.

When a killer targets Gotham’s elite with a series of sadistic machinations, a trail of cryptic clues sends the World’s Greatest Detective on an investigation into the underworld, where he encounters such characters as Selina Kyle/aka Catwoman (Zoë Kravitz), Oswald Cobblepot/aka the Penguin (Colin Farrell), Carmine Falcone (John Turturro), and Edward Nashton/aka the Riddler (Paul Dano). As the evidence begins to lead closer to home and the scale of the perpetrator’s plans becomes clear, Batman must forge new relationships, unmask the culprit, and bring justice to the abuse of power and corruption that has long plagued Gotham City.

Directed by Matt Reeves, The Batman stars Robert Pattinson as the titular hero, Zoe Kravitz as Catwoman, Paul Dano as the Riddler, Jeffrey Wright as James Gordon, John Turturro as Carmine Falcone, Peter Sarsgaard as Gil Colson, Jayme Lawson as Bella Reál, with Andy Serkis as Alfred Pennyworth, and Colin Farrell as the Penguin.
