Warner Bros. officially confirmed that Robert Pattinson’s The Batman is getting a sequel at CinemaCon.
The Batman is currently on its seventh week in theaters and has so far grossed more than $759 million at the worldwide box office, making it the highest-grossing film of the year, at least for the time being. The Robert Pattinson starrer also made its HBO Max debut last week, with about 720K U.S. households streaming it on its first day on the platform.
Today, to the surprise of absolutely no one, Warner Bros. announced that it is developing a sequel to The Batman following its successful run at the box office and on HBO Max. The studio made the announcement during its CinemaCon panel, with writer-director Matt Reeves on hand to break the news. Reeves and Pattinson are both set to return for the sequel.
In addition to The Batman sequel, Matt Reeves is currently working on expanding his take on Gotham City with a series revolving around The Penguin for HBO Max. The writer-director is also developing another project with ties to Arkham Asylum.
Directed by Matt Reeves, The Batman stars Robert Pattinson as the titular hero, Zoe Kravitz as Catwoman, Paul Dano as the Riddler, Jeffrey Wright as James Gordon, John Turturro as Carmine Falcone, Peter Sarsgaard as Gil Colson, Jayme Lawson as Bella Reál, with Andy Serkis as Alfred Pennyworth, Colin Farrell as the Penguin and Barry Keoghan as The Joker.
