New Direction For ‘The Batman’ Paved The Way For ‘The Long Halloween’ Films

Things change.

Robert Pattinson The Batman The Long halloween

Batman: The Long Halloween adaptation apparently came to fruition after Robert Pattinson’s film went in a different direction.

The Long Halloween is one of the most influential Batman works ever, and elements of the story are notably felt in The Dark Knight. An early rumor about Robert Pattinson’s The Batman is that the comic book would heavily inspire that story as well, but it now sounds like things changed during the creative process.

We are finally getting an animated adaptation of Batman: The Long Halloween, in two parts, but new information from Entertainment Weekly suggests it was on hold at one point because of the Robert Pattinson film. It sounds like the animated films could only move forward once Matt Reeves decided to go in a different direction. That’s not to say the 2022 film won’t pull anything from the comic, but it might not be as influenced as some originally thought.

The plot of The Batman is being kept under wraps, but we know the film will follow Robert Pattinson as a younger version of Bruce Wayne, chronicling Batman during his second year as the Dark Knight of Gotham City. The film will also show off the hero using his skills as a detective more than what we’ve seen before in previous versions of the hero. It is also expected to be the first installment in a new trilogy of films with Pattinson.

Directed by Matt Reeves, the film stars Robert Pattinson as the titular hero, Zoe Kravitz as Catwoman, Paul Dano as the Riddler, Jeffrey Wright as Commissioner James Gordon, John Turturro as Carmine Falcone, Peter Sarsgaard as Gil Colson, Jayme Lawson as Bella Reál, with Andy Serkis as Alfred Pennyworth, and Colin Farrell as the Penguin.

The Batman is currently scheduled to hit theaters on March 4, 2022, while The Long Halloween, Part One will be available on digital and Blu-ray on June 22.
