Is The Batman‘s sequel ever coming out? Fans have started to worry about the project following a rumor that Robert Pattinson could be joining the cast of Dune: Messiah.

Fans have been starving for any news on The Batman. While it’s spin-off The Penguin only recently came out to near-universal praise, the sequel hasn’t been quite so lucky. The project has been repeatedly delayed by years, with the project now eyeing an October 2027 release. This in spite of the fact that the script for Robert Pattinson’s return, seemingly, still isn’t done, and Matt Reeves has been known to take over a year in post-production for projects like these.

Worries began to flare up once more when a rumor began to circulate that Robert Pattinson was being eyed to play the lead villain in Dune: Messiah, which is set to film later this year through 2026. If true, this would greatly eat into the time he has to film The Batman sequel, potentially delaying production all the way into 2026, all but guaranteeing the film would be pushed back yet another whole year into October 2028.

Is The Batman Sequel Delayed Again?

This speculation is substantive, but not exactly the whole story. There are plenty of other ways one could interpret this information. Perhaps the one that provides the most copium for The Batman fans came from Deadline reporter Justin Kroll, who pointed out that Dune: Messiah is an ensemble piece. This would give Robert Pattinson plenty of time to film his Dune 3 role and then jet off to film The Batman sequel while production is still ongoing.

Of course, this doesn’t take into account the issues currently affecting The Batman. Even if this rumor were true and Robert Pattinson filmed Dune: Messiah in a reasonable amount of time, they would need to start shooting last month for it to come out in October 2027, given Matt Reeves’ timeline for the last film. So no matter what way one interprets this information, it’s not looking great for The Batman sequel.

The Batman sequel is currently set to hit theaters on October 1, 2027. Stay tuned for the latest news regarding Matt Reeves’ The Batman universe, and make sure to stay tuned to our YouTube channel for more content.
