It’s been well documented, most notably and recently via the man himself’s Twitter, that Ron Perlman is just as much an advocate for a third instalment in the Hellboy franchise as anyone else is.
In fact, it was only a matter of weeks ago he took to his aforementioned social media account to hint to his 350,000+ followers that he was doing something to try and get the wheels in motion for the trilogy to be completed. However, it seems that even Perlman’s hopes may have been dashed between then and now.
Screen Rant sat down with Perlman at a roundtable interview this weekend for his latest project, Trollhunters – coincidentally created by Hellboy and Hellboy II: The Golden Army director Guillermo del Toro – during which there was no chance Perlman was getting away without having the attention directed towards the Hellboy franchise, at least for a few questions.
When asked how much closer he and del Toro were to making Hellboy 3 a reality, he answered simply:
We don’t talk about that anymore.
Digging for further info, he was pressed for why, to which he responded:
Because he’s busy, and I’m busy. Maybe one day he’s going to call and say, ‘Hey, let’s do it.’ But for right now? We’re happy discovering new worlds to conquer.
Lastly, he was questioned on if any of these new worlds he’d mentioned included another collaboration with del Toro, to which he replied:
None that I know of.
Unfortunately for Hellboy fans, it seems that although Perlman has been a huge advocate to get the trilogy completed over the years, even he has now come to the realisation that it just might not happen.
Trollhunters comes to Netflix in December 2016 and features the voices of Ron Perlman and Kelsey Grammer among others.
