James Gunn and Peter Safran have been swinging for the fences with their plans for the brand-new DC Universe. A new rumor suggests their biggest swing yet, with an entirely Korean Huntress film being in the works at DC Studios.
James Gunn has long been an advocate for the idea that superhero fatigue is simply a fatigue of boring movies. Gunn himself continues to push the envelope of heart and creativity with each of his projects, so it’s no wonder he and Peter Safran would bring the same energy to DC Studios and the new DC Universe. According to a new rumor by the moderators of r/DCEULeaks, a brand new Huntress film is in the works, with the twist of it being a Korean-Language film.
Many critics may call James Gunn and Peter Safran fools for making a movie their primary audience can’t understand. However, Korean-Language films have become steadily more popular through the years from Train To Busan‘s runaway success and Parasite winning Best Picture at the Academy Awards in 2020. A brand new Huntress film by a Korean director could serve to continue that trend if this rumor ends up being true.
The future of the DC Universe
James Gunn and Peter Safran told journalists that their vision for the DC Universe includes locked scripts, wiggle room, and a unified storyline across film, television, animation, and video game projects. The two explained that the DC Universe could bring back elements from previous DC regimes, meaning that their eight-to-year plan is not a full reboot.
Shazam! Fury of the Gods, The Flash, Blue Beetle and Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom are currently in various stages of post-production at Warner Bros. Discovery, with all four DC Universe movies slated to hit theaters in 2023. Will the characters from those movies make appearances in the new DCU? Only Gunn and Safran know.
