Sony’s attempt at a Spider-Man villain cinematic universe without Spider-Man has been one of the biggest jokes among comic book movie fans in the past few years. Yet it seems Marvel may want to bring one of Sony’s Spider-Man villains into the MCU.
The Sony Spider-Man-less universe has been a cavalcade of canceled projects, horrible executions, and two half-decent Venom films. By all accounts, it’s yet another failed cinematic universe. Though it seems Marvel is interested in picking up its scraps, with a recent scooper stating that Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige wants to bring one of the Sony villains to the MCU:
“Kevin wants someone (Villian) from the SSU in the MCU,” Insider Cryptic4KQual wrote on social media. “This individual if successfully brought into the MCU will have a cool but disheartening role.”
Given Venom is the only Spider-Man villain Sony has managed to do anything remotely sensible with, it’s likely Kevin Feige wants to bring Tom Hardy to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Though with the actor set to cap off his trilogy with the upcoming Venom 3, it makes sense he would have a small but cool role in the Marvel universe. Then again, it could always be Morbin’ Time!
What to expect from the next Venom movie
Avi Arad, Matt Tolmach, Amy Pascal, and Hutch Parker are producing Venom 3. The four were also involved with the first two Venom movies, which were directed by Ruben Fleischer and Andy Serkis. Kelly Marcel is making her directorial debut with the third installment.
Venom and its follow-up Venom: Let There Be Carnage earned a combined $1.36 billion at the worldwide box office. Following their release, Tom Hardy reprised his role as the anti-hero for the post-credits scene of Spider-Man: No Way Home, setting up the long-awaited arrival of the Symbiote suit for Tom Holland’s Peter Parker.
