Rupert Friend recently talked about joining the Star Wars universe as the Grand Inquisitor for the Obi-Wan Kenobi series.

Obi-Wan Kenobi is set to feature two characters who made their debut in the animated series, Star Wars Rebels. The first trailer provided us a glimpse at Sung Kang’s Fifth Brother, and Rupert Friend’s Grand Inquisitor, who was first voiced by Jason Isaacs in Rebels.

Rupert Friend’s look as the Grand Inquisitor caught some criticism online from fans. The actor didn’t talk about the backlash to his look in an interview with Digital Spy, but he did share his excitement for joining the Star Wars franchise:

“It’s amazing. They have literally built a universe over the years and the incredible thing about is the relationship between the stories and the fans is completely interlaced – they are as connected with those stories as those of us who make it and you really feel like you’re in dialogue as you do it… It’s an amazing thing to be a part of.”

Here is the synopsis for the upcoming Star Wars series:

During the reign of the Galactic Empire, former Jedi Master Obi-Wan Kenobi embarks on a crucial mission. Kenobi must confront allies turned enemies and face the wrath of the Empire.”

Directed by Deborah Chow from Joby Harold’s scripts, the series stars Ewan McGregor, Hayden Christensen, Moses Ingram, Joel Edgerton, Bonnie Piesse, Kumail Nanjiani, Indira Varma, Rupert Friend, O’Shea Jackson Jr., Sung Kang, Simone Kessell, and Benny Safdie. The series will also see the return of legendary Star Wars composer John Williams, who scored a theme.

Obi-Wan Kenobi will hit Disney Plus on May 27, 2022. Stay tuned for all the latest news on the upcoming series, and subscribe to Heroic Hollywood’s YouTube channel for more original video content.
