The Russo Bros. recently joked about returning to Marvel only if they could helm a Secret Wars movie.
The official Avengers 4 title and story have yet to be revealed, which has caused fans across the world to theorize what it could be. One of the many popular theories is that it will be a Secret Wars movie, based off of the iconic limited series written by Jim Shooter. Probably the most iconic aspect of the Secret Wars event, which ran for 12 issues from 1984 to 1985, was that it’s where the symbiote latched onto Spider-Man. This introduced the iconic black suit that would ultimately led to the creation of Venom.
Joe and Anthony Russo recently attended a screening of Avengers: Infinity War as part of the Collider Screening Series and held a Q&A afterwards. After helming such massive films as the latest Avengers sequels, as well as both Captain America sequels, the Russo Brothers joked about which film they would return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe to direct, which was, of course, Secret Wars.

Secret Wars featured many of the iconic heroes and villains of the Marvel universe being collected by a being known as the Beyonder, who brought them to a place called Battleworld. On Battleworld, the heroes and villains were forced to fight to survive. It would certainly be a fascinating addition to the franchise but the MCU has a knack for adapting iconic stories in a way that makes them unique and not just a simple retelling of the stories.
