Blade Runner and Batman Begins star Rutger Hauer passed away on July 19 at the age of 75.
Rutger Hauer’s agent, Steve Kenis, confirmed the acclaimed actor died on July 19 at his home in the Netherlands after a short illness. The funeral for Rutger Hauer was held on Wednesday.
While Rutger Hauer is known for several acclaimed performances in film and television, his most revered role may be Roy Batty, the leader of a gang of replicants in Ridley Scott’s 1982 film Blade Runner. The climax of Blade Runner featured a brutal showdown between Harrison Ford’s Deckard and Rutger Hauer’s Batty, for which the latter wrote his own dialogue. Comic book fans may know Rutger Hauer best for his role in Christopher Nolan’s Batman Begins, in which he played Wayne Enterprises CEO, William Earle.
Rutger Hauer earned a Golden Globe award for Best Supporting Actor for his performance in the television film Escape from Sobibor. The additional credits in Rutger Hauer’s illustrious career include Sin City, Confessions of a Dangerous Mind, Hobo with a Shotgun, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and The Rite.
