Ryan Gosling has revealed which Marvel hero he would like to play, suggesting he’d gladly take over from Nicolas Cage as the Spirit of Vengeance, Ghost Rider.
Ghost Rider has been brought to life in live action twice in the past. Outside the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Nicolas Cage played the original Johnny Blaze incarnation of the character. Meanwhile, in the MCU TV series Agents of SHIELD, Gabriel Luna played the Robbie Reyes Ghost Rider.
Fan speculation is always rife surrounding the possibility of Ghost Rider being brought to the big screen in the MCU. Now Ryan Gosling has singled out the hero as one he’s got his eye on.
The MCU’s New Spirit Of Vengeance
Ryan Gosling apparently revealed he would be interested in the Ghost Rider role shortly after denying rumors he might be playing another Marvel hero – Nova.
With the intergalatic Nova Corps having been introduced to the MCU in Guardians of the Galaxy, fans have been expecting a film focusing on the Corps’ most prominent member, Richard Rider/Nova, for a while. However, Ryan Gosling dispelled fan theories he was up for the part, shortly before revealing Ghost Rider would be his top choice of superhero role.
MTV News’ Josh Horowitz revealed on Twitter that the Blade Runner 2049 star had denied the Nova rumors before reaching out to express his interest in Ghost Rider:
Ghost Rider would certainly be a change of pace after Ryan Gosling’s latest role – Ken in Greta Gerwig’s Barbie, which is currently shooting. With San Diego Comic-Con kicking off in just over a week, could this be Gosling’s way of telling fans to expect an announcement there from Marvel?
Ryan Gosling has recently starred in The Gray Man, which arrives on Netflix this month. The film was directed by Joe and Anthony Russo of Avengers: Endgame fame and Captain America star Chris Evans, so if Gosling is about to enter the MCU, he should have had plenty of opportunity to ask for advice.
Here is the synopsis for The Gray Man:
“THE GRAY MAN is CIA operative Court Gentry (Ryan Gosling), aka, Sierra Six. Plucked from a federal penitentiary and recruited by his handler, Donald Fitzroy (Billy Bob Thornton), Gentry was once a highly-skilled, Agency-sanctioned merchant of death. But now the tables have turned and Six is the target, hunted across the globe by Lloyd Hansen (Chris Evans), a former cohort at the CIA, who will stop at nothing to take him out. Agent Dani Miranda (Ana de Armas) has his back. He’ll need it.”
Directed by Anthony Russo and Joe Russo, the film stars Ryan Gosling, Chris Evans, Ana de Armas, Regé-Jean Page, Billy Bob Thornton, Jessica Henwick, Dhanush, Wagner Moura and Alfre Woodard.
The film is set to stream on Netflix on July 22, 2022. Be sure to continue following Heroic Hollywood for all the latest news on The Russo Brothers’ upcoming new film, and be sure to subscribe to our YouTube channel for more original video content.
