Detective Pikachu star Ryan Reynolds thinks the lightning mouse Pokemon could defeat Deadpool in a fight.

Ryan Reynolds is used to playing famous pop culture characters that audiences love and the star is definitely having the time of his life with it. Ryan Reynolds reinvigorated Deadpool with the 2016 film after the character was given a poor introduction in X-Men Origins: Wolverine. The actor would go on to reprise his role of the merc with a mouth in 2018’s Deadpool. Now, Ryan Reynolds will be moving on to bringing on of the most recognized Pokemon characters to life in this year’s Detective Pikachu. With Detective Pikachu‘s release being imminent, Ryan Reynolds has been doing the press tour for the film and was asked who he thinks would win in a fight between Deadpool and Pikachu to which the actor responded with the following:

“Between Deadpool and Pikachu..that’s a tough one. I kind of feel like Pikachu might. Even though he doesn’t swear, he’s very powerful. He can create some actual real superpowers whereas Deadpool is just mostly sarcastic.”

Detective Pikachu may do a great amount of investigative work, but the famous Pokemon’s abilities give it an upper hand against Deadpool. Detective Pikachu has been receiving good reactions from early screenings. The Detective Pikachu trailers have featured various Pokemon and great action sequences that could even lead to more films and a bigger universe in the future. Detective Pikachu may be small but he has a big heart for his partner and according to Ryan Reynolds he can hold his own against other threats, including Deadpool.

The story begins when ace private eye Harry Goodman goes mysteriously missing, prompting his 21-year-old son Tim to find out what happened. Aiding in the investigation is Harry’s former Pokémon partner, Detective Pikachu: a hilariously wise-cracking, adorable super-sleuth who is a puzzlement even to himself. Finding that they are uniquely equipped to communicate with one another, Tim and Pikachu join forces on a thrilling adventure to unravel the tangled mystery. Chasing clues together through the neon-lit streets of Ryme City—a sprawling, modern metropolis where humans and Pokémon live side by side in a hyper-realistic live-action world—they encounter a diverse cast of Pokémon characters and uncover a shocking plot that could destroy this peaceful co-existence and threaten the whole Pokémon universe.

Directed by Rob Letterman from a script he co-wrote with Dan Hernandez & Benji Samit, Derek Connolly, and Nicole Perlman, Pokemon: Detective Pikachu stars Ryan Reynolds as the titular pocket monster, Justice Smith as Tim, Kathryn Newton as Lucy, and Oscar nominee Ken Watanabe as Lt. Yoshida.

Veteran X-Men producer Simon Kinberg makes his directorial debut with Dark Phoenix in addition to producing the film with Hutch Parker, Lauren Schuler Donner and Todd Hallowell. Dark Phoenix is expected to be Fox's final X-Men film featuring the core X-Men cast in the cinematic universe launched by director Bryan Singer in 2000 with the Disney-Fox merger now complete.

X-Men: Dark Phoenix stars James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence, Nicholas Hoult, Tye Sheridan, Sophie Turner, Alexandra Shipp, Kodi Smit-McPhee, Evan Peters, and Jessica Chastain. Here's the film's synopsis:

“This is the story of one of the X-Men’s most beloved characters, Jean Grey, as she evolves into the iconic DARK PHOENIX.  During a life-threatening rescue mission in space, Jean is hit by a cosmic force that transforms her into one of the most powerful mutants of all.  Wrestling with this increasingly unstable power as well as her own personal demons, Jean spirals out of control, tearing the X-Men family apart and threatening to destroy the very fabric of our planet.  The film is the most intense and emotional X-Men movie ever made. It is the culmination of 20 years of X-Men movies, as the family of mutants that we’ve come to know and love must face their most devastating enemy yet — one of their own.”

Dark Phoenix is set to hit theaters on June 7, 2019. Stay tuned to Heroic Hollywood for the latest news on the future of the X-Men.
