Marvel has reportedly cast Sacha Baron Cohen as Mephisto for its upcoming Ironheart series on Disney Plus.

According to reliable leaker known as “MyTimeToShineHello” on Twitter, Sacha Baron Cohen has joined the cast of the upcoming Disney Plus series Ironheart. The actor is believed to be playing Mephisto, with reports indicating that the character is the one who grants The Hood (played by Anthony Ramos) his powers, replacing Dormammu.

Created by Marvel legends Stan Lee and John Buscema, Mephisto made his first comic book appearance in The Silver Surfer #3, which was released in December 1968. The character is inspired by the demon Mephistopheles from the Faust legend and is often depicted as Marvel’s version of the Devil. He was previously been played by actors Peter Fonda and Ciaran Hinds.

A recipient of numerous awards, Sacha Baron Cohen is best known for creating and portraying the comedic characters Ali G, Borat Sagdiyev, Brüno Gehard and Admiral General Aladeen. He has also received acclaim for his work as political activist Abbie Hoffman in the Aaron Sorkin drama The Trial of the Chicago 7.

The cast of Ironheart also includes Jim Rash, Lyric Ross, Harper Anthony, Manny Montana, Alden Ehrenreich, Shea Couleé, Zoe Terakes, Regan Aliyah, Shakira Barrera, Sonia Denis and Rashida “Sheedz” Olayiwola. Production on the six-episode series is currently underway.
