Is Spider-Man 4 FINALLY going to see the light of day? Director Sam Raimi reveals if he’ll ever come back to helm the lost sequel to his saga.
Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man 4 is truly one of the greatest “What If’s” to exist in the world of superhero media. After corporate meddling kneecapped Spider-Man 3 and the deadline’s of Sony’s deal with Marvel required an incredibly crunched timeline to make the film, the project was ultimately cancelled, leaving the quadrilogy unfinished.
But fans no longer live in a world of “get something new out there”. The studios want the old and dusty stuff that gets childhood fans back in their seats. And with Sam Raimi recently making his return to the Marvel universe with Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, the chances of Spider-Man 4 actually happening on greater than ever before.
Is Spider-Man 4 Coming Out?
Sam Raimi was actually asked about the possibility of Spider-Man 4 finally being made in a recent chat with ScreenRant to promote his new movie Send Help. Sadly for fans, it seems as though the director has no interest returning to that corner of the multiverse, saying that the torch has already been passed on to new creatives.
“Stan Lee’s great character – that a bullpen of writers in New York at Marvel had come up with stories for -he created the character, but so many people contributed, so many artists, that for a brief time I was handed the torch to carry on after 40 years of Spider-Man comics. And then after my three movies, I handed the torch off to someone else. And I think they’ve got to keep running with the storyline and the audience that is now following the torchbearer.”
While it’s a shame that the story of Spider-Man 4 will never come to life, it is refreshing to see a director like Sam Raimi refuse to fall back on his laurels and make a project that would certainly bring him boat loads of cash. And with the recent slate of Spider-Man films performing better than ever, it seems as though the web-head is in good hands.
