Will Sam Raimi ever be able to direct Spider-Man 4? The director gives an update on the possibility of the Marvel sequel.

Spider-Man 4 is truly the white whale of comic book film culture. With every year that goes by, Spider-Man fans become more and more obsessed with what could have been. Given Sam Raimi has now returned to Marvel with Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, fans think now may be the perfect time to make it a reality. However, according to Raimi, it’s not likely to come anytime soon.

“Well, I haven’t heard about that yet.” Raimi spoke in a recent interview with CBR while at WonderCon. “I did read that, but I’m not actually working on it yet.”

“I mean, Marvel and Columbia [are] so successful with their current Spider-Man and the track there. And I don’t know that they’re going to go back to me and say, ‘Wait folks, we could also tell that story.’ I’m not sure, but I love all the new Spider-Man movies. I loved Spider-Man: No Way Home. [It] was really super powerful and great seeing Tobey [Maguire] again in it.”

While it’s possible Marvel is making Sam Raimi play coy about the possibility of Spider-Man 4 to the public, the truth likely is that the studio has no plans of letting the director continue his series of films. Given it’s been nearly two decades since the last installment, it’s safe to say that the project likely won’t ever come to light, no matter how much fans want it.

The Plot Of Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man 4

While the film never got released, details about the script for Spider-Man 4 have found their way online over the years. It seemed Sam Raimi intended for Vulture to be the main villain of the project, with John Malkovich in talks to play the part. This would have been the first appearance of the villain on the silver screen, long before Michael Keaton was ever in talks to play him in Spider-Man: Homecoming.

Sam Raimi was also interested in having Anne Hathaway appear as Felicia Hardy in Spider-Man 4. However, instead of the character transforming into Black Cat in the project, the film would have seen her take on the persona of Vulturess.

Spider-Man: No Way Home is now available to own on 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray, Blu-ray, DVD, and Digital HD. Stay tuned for the latest news regarding Spider-Man’s Marvel Cinematic Universe future and make sure to subscribe to our YouTube channel for more content!
