Director Sam Raimi recently discussed the possibility of helming a potential Spider-Man 4 with Tobey Maguire.

Following the release of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, Sam Raimi is at the center of speculation regarding his involvement in future Marvel Cinematic Universe projects. Despite the speculation, Raimi clarified his current stance in an interview with The Wrap, stating, “I don’t have any plans, but I would love it!”

Amidst the rumors, particular interest has grown around the possibility of Raimi returning to direct a fourth installment of his beloved Spider-Man series with Tobey Maguire. Addressing this prospect, Raimi shared his vision for what Spider-Man 4 might entail. “I’d have to know what the next thing that character has to learn,” the director told the trade. “I’d have to talk with Tobey, and the writers, and really figure out what his personal growth for this episode would be.”

Sam Raimi further elaborated on how the story and antagonist of a potential Spider-Man 4 would need to be deeply interconnected with Maguire’s character arc. He explained, “I think if we were to make a fourth Spider-Man film, we’d probably have to figure out the journey that Tobey Maguire’s character would be going on, and what obstacles he had to overcome to achieve that growth personally.”

In terms of the villain’s role in the hypothetical film, Raimi expressed that the choice of antagonist would reflect the personal challenges faced by Maguire’s Spider-Man. “I hope that the villain would be chosen based on a representation of that obstacle,” Raimi added.

Spider-Man’s Marvel Cinematic Universe Future

As fans eagerly await news about the next chapter in the Spider-Man saga, Tom Holland has shed some light on the current status of the MCU’s Spider-Man 4. More than two years after the release of Spider-Man: No Way Home, Holland revealed that Spider-Man 4 is inching forward. He disclosed that he is actively participating in creative meetings, but the film is still in the early stages of development.

Holland emphasized the dedication to maintaining the high standards set by the previous films, particularly the widely acclaimed No Way Home. “We have the best in the business working toward whatever the story might be. But until we’ve cracked it, we have a legacy to protect. The third movie was so special in so many ways that we need to make sure we do the right thing,” the actor teased. Holland’s comments suggest that while fans may need to be patient, the wait will likely be rewarded with a film that honors the legacy of Marvel’s wall-crawler.
