Star Wars voice actor Sam Witwer has teased the story and animated style in the upcoming series centered on the Bad Batch clones.
When Star Wars: The Clone Wars came to an end, many expected that a Rebels successor series would follow as the next animated series. However, Lucasfilm announced last week that the next animated series will instead follow the Batch Batch clones who were introduced in the first arc of Clone Wars‘ final season after the events of Order 66.
Since not much else is known about Star Wars: The Bad Batch, some fans have had a mixed reaction to the news. During a recent Twitch stream, Star Wars voice actor and die-hard fan Sam Witwer revealed he has seen and heard some stuff from The Bad Batch and teased what we can expect:
“I will tell you it looks really, really good. It looks absolutely beautiful. The story…at least I know where the story begins in the first several episodes and I am very pleased because it’s a little area of Star Wars that has not been often visited.”
Sam Witwer went on to talk more about the quality of The Bad Batch animation and how it compares to The Clone Wars:
“It meant getting a lot of people back in there that had previously been at Lucasfilm and then had moved on when Clone Wars was canceled. So, in order to do Clone Wars, you needed to get those folks back. What I like is that they didn’t just put that all back together only to let them go again. What I saw was brilliant, extraordinary, beautiful, beautiful, animation. I won’t say what it looks like, but I will say this…of the quality of Clone Wars where that bar is set…yes, absolutely, totally. “

Here is the synopsis for the upcoming series:
The series follows the elite and experimental clones of the Bad Batch (first introduced in The Clone Wars) as they find their way in a rapidly changing galaxy in the immediate aftermath of the Clone War. Members of Bad Batch — a unique squad of clones who vary genetically from their brothers in the Clone Army — each possess a singular exceptional skill, which makes them extraordinarily effective soldiers and a formidable crew. In the post-Clone War era, they will take on daring mercenary missions as they struggle to stay afloat and find new purpose.
Star Wars: The Bad Batch is executive produced by Dave Filoni, Athena Portillo, Brad Rau, and Jennifer Corbett with Carrie Beckas co-executive producer and Josh Rimes as producer. Rau is also serving as supervising director with Corbett as head writer.
