Samara Weaving is officially joining Henry Golding’s Snake Eyes as Scarlett.
Paramount officially announced the news regarding the GI Joe spin-off Snake Eyes earlier today. This is going to the be third live-action film in the GI Joe franchise and the first to focus on Snake Eyes, who will be played by Henry Golding. This is Samara Weaving’s first big-budget, blockbuster role after he recent appearance in the smash-hit Ready or Not.
It was also announced that Japanese actor Takehiro Hira will also be joining the cast as the film’s villain. As the film enters production, we’re seeing quite a few casting announcements. Not only is Snake Eyes going to be a diverse film for Paramount with a major Asian casting backing it, but Scarlett has always been known as a strong female character. With Snake Eyes, Paramount has a fantastic opportunity to introduce a brand new generation to Asian culture as well as Scarlett, who Samara Weaving will bring to life in 2020.
Beyond that, we’re due for a new film in the GI Joe franchise considering the last film came out nearly 7 years ago to middling responses. With Henry Golding and Samara Weaving in the mix, we’re surely going to have a hit on our hands. Especially after Henry Golding’s highly successful Crazy Rich Asians. Details regarding the upcoming Henry Golding and Samara Weaving film are slim, though we can imagine that it’ll feature the GI Joes in a certain capacity. Beyond that, we can expect Samara Weaving to dye her hair scarlet red for the role.
