For years, rumors and speculation online have claimed that Scarlett Johansson and Gwyneth Paltrow clashed on the set of Iron Man 2. During a recent interview, the Black Widow star finally took the time to clear the air.
The rumors of a feud between Scarlett Johansson and Gwyneth Paltrow were brought to the star’s attention on The Goop podcast. While recalling their time on the set of the Iron Man film, Paltrow brought up how often people ask her about the rumor. Johansson, on the other hand, seemed to have never even heard the claim before:
“Is that a rumor?” She responded. “You were so nice to me on that movie. I was so petrified. You were so nice to me! You could’ve been awful. I was so out of my comfort zone on that movie. I’d never done anything like that before. Plus, you had established such deep friendships.”
The two would go on to discuss how nice it felt to have another woman on the set in such a male-centered film series. While Scarlett Johansson is not likely to return to Marvel any time soon, the franchise has become much more female with time with the inclusion of characters such as Brie Larson’s Captain Marvel and Florence Pugh’s Yelena Belova. Even the role of Iron Man is set to be taken up by a woman with Riri Williams taking up the mantle of Ironheart in her upcoming Disney Plus series starring Dominique Thorne. While its unclear what the future of any of these actresses will be, it’s clear that the foundation of women in the Marvel Cinematic Universe was based on friendship.
Who else is attached to the Ironheart series?
Ironheart follows Riri Williams, a brilliant MIT student who creates the most advanced suit of armor since the one worn by Tony Stark, a.k.a. Iron Man. Thorne made her first appearance as Ironheart in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, which is currently playing in theaters.
Chinaka Hodge is the head writer of the Ironheart series while Sam Bailey and Angela Barnes serve as directors. Hodge is also executive producing the project alongside Ryan Coogler, Zinzi Coogler, Sev Ohanian, Louis D’Esposito, Victoria Alonso, Brad Winderbaum, Zoie Nagelhout and Kevin Feige.
The cast of Ironheart also includes Jim Rash, Lyric Ross, Harper Anthony, Manny Montana, Alden Ehrenreich, Shea Couleé, Zoe Terakes, Regan Aliyah, Shakira Barrera, Sonia Denis, Paul Calderón and Rashida “Sheedz” Olayiwola.
