Was The Fantastic Four: First Steps setting up Avengers: Doomsday this whole time? A rumor suggests that a scrapped scene will appear in the upcoming crossover.

One of the biggest complaints fans have heading into Avengers: Doomsday is that the Fantastic Four, seemingly, won’t be playing a major role. While there’ll obviously play a part in the story, it’s not the part many fans were hoping for when it was announced that DOCTOR DOOM of all characters would be the leading villain for the Multiverse Saga’s finale.

However, it does seem that the First Family may play a bigger role in Avengers: Doomsday than has been revealed in the rumor mill. A rumor from MyTimeToShineHello suggests that a post-credits scene was scrapped from The Fantastic Four: First Steps. However, that scene will live on in Avengers: Doomsday, setting up the core conflict of the film.

“The original post credits scene for First Steps which was removed had the Fantastic Four visiting Steve at his cabin on their Earth and asking him for help with a multiversal problem / the Incursions. That scene now appears in Avengers Doomsday.”

The Fantastic Four’s Role In Avengers: Doomsday

If this rumor is true, it seems to set up two major stories heading into Avengers: Doomsday. The first, and most obvious, is that of the Fantastic Four. If they’re worried about incursions, it’s likely that their meeting with Steve Rogers will point them to the Sacred Timeline. This would explain the Thunderbolts post-credits scene, which brings the team to the mainline MCU.

This scrapped scene also seems to set up Steve Rogers’ own story in Avengers: Doomsday. Contrary to speculation that Loki would be the inciting incident for his journey, it seems as though the Fantastic Four will be the one that draw his attention to the film’s conflict. Though it’s also possible that both parties try to recruit him, with only Loki succeeding.

Avengers: Doomsday is set to hit theaters in December 2026. Stay tuned for the latest news regarding the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe!
