‘Secret Invasion’: Ben Mendelsohn Teases Talos’ Evolution

'It's an evolution'

Secret Invasion is finally set to bring the Skrulls back to the forefront in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, following their introduction in Captain Marvel. During the global press conference for the Disney Plus series, Ben Mendelsohn teased his evolution as the Skrull Talos.

Marvel’s Secret Invasion sees Samuel L. Jackson’s Nick Fury facing off against Skrulls as they launch their attack on humanity. This leaves Fury in a situation where he doesn’t know who he can trust, including one of his closest friends in the Skrull Talos, played by Ben Mendelsohn. During the press conference, Mendelsohn teased that, while their relationship isn’t strained, it would be going through “an evolution” as Talos learns to navigate their new circumstances:

“That was a much harder job for me,” Mendelsohn explains “But, we’re finding Talos in a difficult time. Like, you know, like, you’re not gonna get this spoiler out of me, so stop trying to give me that funny spoiler vibe thing. It’s a bad time, you know? It’s a bad time.”

Given Talos’ entire race has seemingly turned against the planet they’ve called home for the last 30 years, it’s no wonder the character is going through a difficult time. This is especially the case with his daughter G’iah, played by Emilia Clarke, caught in the middle of this war. Though which side Talos ultimately ends up on, be it with Fury or with his people, is still yet to be seen.

How Marvel is adapting Secret Invasion

Secret Invasion is based on the comic book storyline of the same name, which was created by Brian Michael Bendis and Leinil Francis Yu . The story revolves around a group of Skrulls, an alien race that has the ability to shape-shift and take on the appearance of anyone they want. The Skrulls have infiltrated Earth’s society and are secretly replacing key figures with their own kind in order to take over the planet.

The full Secret Invasion cast also includes Cobie Smulders as Maria Hill, Kingsley Ben-Adir as Gravik, Emilia Clarke as G’iah, Don Cheadle as James “Rhodey” Rhodes and Martin Freeman as Everett K. Ross. Olivia Colman, Dermot Mulroney, Killian Scott, Christopher McDonald, Carmen Ejogo and Charlayne Woodard are also on board in undisclosed roles.
