Many fans found the ending of Secret Invasion to be disappointing at best given the direction Marvel took the final fight against the Skrull leader Gravik. However, G’iah actress Emilia Clarke says that the finale was the most fun she’s had on a set.

The finale of Secret Invasion rocketed the Marvel Disney Plus series from being a political thriller to a CGI-filled brawl between Gravik (Kingsley Ben-Adir) and G’iah (Emilia Clarke), two Super Skrulls enhanced by Avengers DNA. Many fans hated this climax due to the rapid tonal switch, but Clarke seems to have loved it, calling it the “funnest day” she’s had on any set ever:
“I literally was like, this is my best day ever,” Clarke spoke on Marvel.com “I’m a theme park-riding kind of gal. Give me a trapeze. Give me a roller coaster. It felt exactly like that. I just kept giggling. I couldn’t stop giggling. It was genuinely the funnest day I’ve ever had on set — ever, ever, ever. if I could just live in wires, if I could be in wires now— Oh, it’s so good. After I wanted to tell everyone, I just came back, I’ve done something!”
While certainly a fun time on set, the fun may have been the detracting factor from Secret Invasion‘s finale. For a Marvel project so focused on grounded stakes and political intrigue, ratcheting up the adrenaline so high with two Super Skrulls duking it out was seen as off putting. At the very least, it seems as though Emilia Clarke is more than happy to hop into the saddle as G’iah again if Marvel calls!
How Marvel is adapting Secret Invasion
Secret Invasion is based on the comic book storyline of the same name, which was created by Brian Michael Bendis and Leinil Francis Yu. The story revolves around a group of Skrulls, an alien race that has the ability to shape-shift and take on the appearance of anyone they want. The Skrulls have infiltrated Earth’s society and are secretly replacing key figures with their own kind in order to take over the planet.
The full Secret Invasion cast also includes Cobie Smulders as Maria Hill, Kingsley Ben-Adir as Gravik, Emilia Clarke as G’iah, Don Cheadle as James “Rhodey” Rhodes and Martin Freeman as Everett K. Ross. Olivia Colman, Dermot Mulroney, Killian Scott, Christopher McDonald, Carmen Ejogo and Charlayne Woodard are also on board in undisclosed roles.
