Secret Invasion is set to bring a proper political spy thriller to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The show seems to be taking more than just a page from another fantastical political thriller, casting Game of Thrones star Richard Dormer as Agent Prescott.
This brand new piece of casting information comes from eagle-eyed fans spotting Richard Dormer yelling at Martin Freeman’s Everett Ross in a new featurette for Secret Invasion. Dormer is best known for his role as Berric Dondarrion in Game of Thrones, though has previously worked with Disney in the film Togo. The actor will be playing a character known as Agent Prescott, though his role in the show is currently unclear.
Richard Dormer isn’t the only Game of Thrones actor making their MCU debut in Secret Invasion. Emilia Clarke, best known for her role as Daenerys Targaryen, is set to play G’iah, a grown-up version of a young Skrull from Captain Marvel and the daughter of Ben Mendelsohn’s Talos. With so many of Marvel’s biggest names coming from action movies or comedies, bringing actors from the world of Westeros in for a show like Secret Invasion is an incredibly smart move. Only time will tell if it pays off in the long run.
How Marvel is adapting Secret Invasion
Secret Invasion is based on the comic book storyline of the same name, which was created by Brian Michael Bendis and Leinil Francis Yu . The story revolves around a group of Skrulls, an alien race that has the ability to shape-shift and take on the appearance of anyone they want. The Skrulls have infiltrated Earth’s society and are secretly replacing key figures with their own kind in order to take over the planet.
The Secret Invasion comic book event was a huge success and is widely regarded as one of the best Marvel storylines of all time. The Disney Plus series is being led by Samuel L. Jackson and Ben Mendelsohn, focusing on the aftermath of the events of Spider-Man: Far From Home and other Marvel projects.
The full Secret Invasion cast also includes Cobie Smulders as Maria Hill, Kingsley Ben-Adir as Gravik, Emilia Clarke as G’iah, Don Cheadle as James “Rhodey” Rhodes and Martin Freeman as Everett K. Ross. Olivia Colman, Dermot Mulroney, Killian Scott, Christopher McDonald, Carmen Ejogo and Charlayne Woodard are also on board in undisclosed roles.
