With less than two weeks until the Secret Invasion make its long-awaited debut on Disney Plus, the clock is ticking for Nick Fury. The promo teases that Nick Fury is demanding someone to choose a side, likely meaning there will be a Skrull torn between fighting for their race or fighting for humanity. It’s long been speculated that Don Cheadle’s James Rhodes a.k.a. War Machine would be revealed as a Skrull in Secret Invasion, mostly due to the infamous recasting of Terrance Howard. It could also be Fury’s trusted aid in Cobie Smulder’s Maria Hill could remain a Skrull even after the events of Spider-Man: Far From Home. The only way to find out who fans can truly trust is to check out the show when it drops on Disney Plus later this month.
How Marvel is adapting Secret Invasion
Secret Invasion is based on the comic book storyline of the same name, which was created by Brian Michael Bendis and Leinil Francis Yu . The story revolves around a group of Skrulls, an alien race that has the ability to shape-shift and take on the appearance of anyone they want. The Skrulls have infiltrated Earth’s society and are secretly replacing key figures with their own kind in order to take over the planet.
The Secret Invasion comic book event was a huge success and is widely regarded as one of the best Marvel storylines of all time. The Disney Plus series is being led by Samuel L. Jackson and Ben Mendelsohn, focusing on the aftermath of the events of Spider-Man: Far From Home and other Marvel projects.
The full Secret Invasion cast also includes Cobie Smulders as Maria Hill, Kingsley Ben-Adir as Gravik, Emilia Clarke as G’iah, Don Cheadle as James “Rhodey” Rhodes and Martin Freeman as Everett K. Ross. Olivia Colman, Dermot Mulroney, Killian Scott, Christopher McDonald, Carmen Ejogo and Charlayne Woodard are also on board in undisclosed roles.
