Sentry’s origin was almost a LOT darker! The latest Thunderbolts rumor reveals the first draft of Bob’s transformation into the villainous Void.
One of the things fans loved the most about Thunderbolts was how dark it was compared to other MCU projects. The movie wasn’t afraid to pull its punches with leaning into the more uncomfortable elements of its premise. Perhaps no element was a better example of this than Sentry’s origin as a depressed vagrant drug addict that was accidentally transformed into a god.
Yet it seems the original take on the character’s origin was somehow even darker. The latest rumor from scooper Cryptic HD QUALITY reveals that the first draft of Thunderbolts had Bob as a member of a strike force. However, it was his abuse of drugs that turned him into the Sentry and, later on, The Void itself.
“Bob was part of a strike force before he signed up for that program of Valentina’s. He [lost] his memory due to the drugs. Valentina would go on to tell him that before all of it, he used to kill for the US. More drugs would’ve been the push that brought out the void.”
Why Sentry’s Origin Was Scrapped
Now, it’s important to note that this take on Sentry’s origin wasn’t even considered for the current incarnation of the film. The rumor suggests that this comes from the script written by Eric Pearson, who was the original writer before Beef director Jake Schreier joined the film and brought on his own writer: Joanna Calo.
There’s been a lot of interesting information to come out about Eric Pearson’s original script for Thunderbolts over the last few months. However, given how notoriously protective Disney is of their IP, it’s likely that this rumor will never be confirmed via an officially revealed script. However, it is certainly an interesting glimpse at what could have been.
