Since Rick was forced to kill him at the end of Season Two of The Walking Dead, Shane has been a very busy man. Not the least of which included him coming back to life under the new name of Frank Castle, traveling to Hell’s Kitchen and beyond in New York, and becoming a vigilante called The Punisher. Okay, crossovers aside, we know that next week’s upcoming episode of The Walking Dead will be the last one for Rick Grimes, if you hadn’t noticed in AMC’s marketing for this season.
But with Rick Grimes’ upcoming departure comes a slew of familiar faces. Not a lot, mind you, and The Walking Dead is no stranger to bringing back past cast members and characters for new flashbacks or material, one in particular for Rick’s final episode will be the return of his cop partner, Jon Bernthal’s Shane Walsh. At the end of last night’s episode, we saw Rick surrounded by two approaching walker herds and impaled with rebar in his side in what looks like a fatal injury.
The preview for the next episode of The Walking Dead, titled “What Comes After,” felt like a trip down memory lane with recreations of scenes such as Rick first arriving in Atlanta, him waking up in the hospital, and, yes, having small talk with his buddy, Shane, as we do see Jon Bernthal’s character show up in the preview for the next episode. You can watch the preview and see Shane return to the world of The Walking Dead in the preview below:
Shane won’t be the only character coming back from the dead for Rick’s sendoff, as Sasha and Hershel will also make a comeback as well. Admittedly, Sasha is an odd pick because she didn’t exactly have that close of a connection with Rick compared to, say, Lori or Carl or even Andrea, but that’s just my opinion. What do you make of Shane coming back to The Walking Dead? What sort of conversations do you hope he has with Rick when the two have an opportunity to catch up? Let us know in the comments below.
The Walking Dead airs on Sunday nights at 9 P.M. on AMC. The final episode for Rick Grimes will air next Sunday.
