Is Shang-Chi the secret key to Avengers: Doomsday? The latest rumor about the project reveals what the film has in store for the Ten Rings and their holder.
While most of the speculation around Avengers: Doomsday has focused around the X-Men and Doctor Doom, that doesn’t mean the MCU’s latest stock of heroes don’t have anything interesting in store for them. Perhaps the character with the biggest question mark about their head is Shang-Chi. Not only were his Ten Rings teased as being a key part of the Multiverse Saga, but all signs point to the character having a large role in the original draft of Avengers: Kang Dynasty.
Sadly, it seems as though Shang-Chi won’t be leading the charge in Avengers: Doomsday. Alex Perez from The Cosmic Circus spoke on the role the bearer of the Ten Rings will play in the film during a recent rumor round-up. According to the scooper, Shang-Chi will play a largely comedic role in the film, in part due to having never been part of a team before.
“Bit of a comic relief. He may feel a bit out of place because it’ll be his first time being in a large group of super-powered heroes.”
The Fate Of The Ten Rings In Avengers: Doomsday
However, it seems as though Shang-Chi won’t be the only element of his story destined to have a less than glorious return in Avengers: Doomsday. Continuing to speak on the character, the rumor remarks that the armor Doctor Doom will have in the film may be the final resting place of the Ten Rings. Or, at the very least, will be able to repel them into being essentially useless.
“Although I do have to say, did you see Doom’s recent design from the Disney 2026 Merchandise Expo in China? Shoooooot. Not the 1:1 design they’ll use in Doomsday, but it’s close. Say, upon closer inspection, doesn’t that Plackart Doom have on his abdomen look mighty interesting? It almost looks like you could bounce a ring off it. Or 10.”
This rumor may come as disappointing to fans who have been waiting nearly half a decade to see Shang-Chi back in action. Though while he and the Ten Rings likely won’t play a vital role in Avengers: Doomsday, the fact his story is tied to Doctor Doom at all suggests he’ll at least have a prominent role. Now fans just need to hope audiences enjoy him enough to justify a sequel!
