Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Fists star Simu Liu has joined Margot Robbie’s upcoming live-action Barbie film.
The development of the live-action Barbie film is one that feels like something out of a fever dream. The film had been in development for some time before Warner Bros greenlit the project with Harley Quinn star Margot Robbie. The actress is set to star as the iconic character and will also be co-producing the film. Later that year, Lady Bird and Little Women director Greta Gerwig was brought on to helm and co-write the project. Now the film has added a little Marvel star power to its cast.
According to a new report from The Hollywood Reporter, Shang Chi and the Legend of the Ten Fists star Simu Liu is in negotiations to join the cast of Margot Robbie’s Barbie film. Liu gained widespread recognition thanks to his role in the recent Marvel film and appears to want another major franchise under his belt. It is currently unknown what role he will be playing in the movie.
Plot details on the upcoming Barbie film are currently being kept under lock and key. Currently, it is known that Margot Robbie, who is also producing, will play Barbie with Ryan Gosling playing Ken. America Ferrera, known for her roles in The Sisterhood of Traveling Pants and How To Train Your Pet Dragon has been cast in an undisclosed role. As stated above, Simu Liu is also set to join the cast in an unknown role as well. Academy Award-nominated director Greta Gerwig is helming the project and co-writing the screenplay with Noah Baumbach with Warner Bros backing the project.
