During his appearance at Germany’s CCXP Cologne convention, Zachary Levi discussed why Warner Bros. wants to begin filming Shazam! 2 sooner rather than later.
Director David F. Sandberg’s Shazam! offered audiences a comparatively lighter and more humourous DC film than most recent entries, leaving many fans excited to see Zachary Levi and the rest of the cast return for a sequel. While Zachary Levi admitted that he currently doesn’t know what the plans for Shazam! 2 are, he told convention attendees he will soon have conversations about what the sequel will entail:
“I know that I’m gonna have a conversation with my bosses pretty soon about what the idea is and where we’re going with the new movie, but all I really know is that New Line, our studio, and Warner Brothers, our parent studio, and DC, and our producers and executives and everybody who’s involved in all of the decision making, they’re all very happy with what we did. They want to do even better the second time around, and they are crafting a story right now as we speak about what that sequel is going to be.”
While there has yet to be any word on when Shazam! 2 will begin production, Zachary Levi noted Warner Bros. wants to start filming soon due to the rapidly growing child and teen actors:
“The only other thing I know is they want to make it as soon as possible because those kids are growing up like weeds, so if we don’t do that in like the next two days, they’re gonna be full-grown adults.”
Writer Henry Gayden is set to pen the screenplay for Shazam! 2, with David F. Sandberg expected to return as director. In the meantime, the first film is currently available on all home media formats.
We all have a superhero inside us, it just takes a bit of magic to bring it out. In Billy Batson’s (Angel) case, by shouting out one word—SHAZAM!—this streetwise 14-year-old foster kid can turn into the adult Super Hero Shazam (Levi), courtesy of an ancient wizard. Still a kid at heart—inside a ripped, godlike body—Shazam revels in this adult version of himself by doing what any teen would do with superpowers: have fun with them! Can he fly? Does he have X-ray vision? Can he shoot lightning out of his hands? Can he skip his social studies test? Shazam sets out to test the limits of his abilities with the joyful recklessness of a child. But he’ll need to master these powers quickly in order to fight the deadly forces of evil controlled by Dr. Thaddeus Sivana (Strong).
Directed by David F. Sandberg, Shazam! stars Zachary Levi, Asher Angel, Mark Strong, Jack Dylan Grazer, Grace Fulton, Faithe Herman, Ian Chen, Jovan Armand, Cooper Andrews, Marta Milans and Djimon Hounsou.
Shazam! is now available on Digital HD, 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray, and DVD.
