Ouch!

Zachary Levi Shazam Fury of the Gods DC Universe

The much-anticipated sequel to the 2019 superhero film Shazam! is hitting theaters tomorrow and the first reviews are in. Shazam! Fury of the Gods is currently sitting at a 62% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, based on 77 reviews. While this may not be the highest rating, it is still an indication that the latest dc Universe film is worth a watch.

According to the critics consensus, Shazam! Fury of the Gods is “more unfocused and less satisfying than its predecessor”. However, Fury of the Gods still manages to “retain enough of the source material’s silly charm to save the day”. This sentiment seems to be shared by many critics who have praised the film’s fun and lighthearted tone, despite some of its shortcomings.

In addition to Shazam! Fury of the GodsThe FlashBlue Beetle and Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom are also currently in various stages of post-production at Warner Bros. Discovery, with all four DC Universe movies set to hit theaters this year. Will the characters from those movies make appearances in the new DC Universe? Only newly-named DC Studios heads James Gunn and Peter Safran Safran know.
