‘Shazam!’ Producer Talks Henry Cavill’s Future & Freddy’s Superman Fandom

Batman Shazam Henry Cavill Superman Zachary Levi Jack Dylan GrazerIn Shazam!, Freddy’s (Jack Dylan Grazer) love for Superman (Henry Cavill) and all things DC will be a key aspect to his character.

Shazam! hits theaters in April and it will focus on Billy Batson (Asher Angel) as he comes to grips with new abilities that include transforming into the hero Shazam (Zachary Levi). Another key character in Shazam!, as seen in the trailer and promos for the film, will be Billy’s new foster brother Freddy. The character is played by IT star Jack Dylan Grazer and he will have a total love for all things DC, including Henry Cavill’s Superman, when the film debuts.

During a recent sneak preview event for Shazam!, producer Peter Safran and director David F. Sandberg responded to a question regarding the love that Jack Dylan Grazer’s Freddy has for the heroes of the DC universe, using small references in the trailer such as Freddy’s Superman memorabilia as examples. This is what David F. Sandberg had to say about the topic.

“Absolutely. You probably saw some of it there, like the newspaper clip makes that reference. Things that have happened in the universe before.”

Peter Safran then chimed in with his response regarding Freddy’s obsession with the DC superheroes.

“Superheroes are real in our world, and Freddy is a giant fan and incredibly knowledgeable.”

Safran also jokingly had this to say when asked about whether or not fans would be able to see Henry Cavill’s Superman again in the future.

“Yeah! When DC makes that movie I think it’s going to be great! You’ll definitely get to see it then. You guys will love it.”

We’ll be sure to keep you updated on all news regarding Shazam! as soon as more information becomes available. What other pieces of memorabilia from previous DCEU films do you expect to see on the wall of Jack Dylan Grazer’s character in the movie? Do you think Henry Cavill’s Superman will make a cameo in the film? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below!

Directed by David F. Sandberg, Shazam! stars Zachary Levi, Asher Angel, Mark Strong, Jack Dylan Grazer, Grace Fulton, Faithe Herman, Ian Chen, Jovan Armand, Cooper Andrews, Marta Milans, and Djimon Hounsou.

We all have a superhero inside us, it just takes a bit of magic to bring it out. In Billy Batson’s (Angel) case, by shouting out one word—SHAZAM!—this streetwise 14-year-old foster kid can turn into the adult Super Hero Shazam (Levi), courtesy of an ancient wizard. Still a kid at heart—inside a ripped, godlike body—Shazam revels in this adult version of himself by doing what any teen would do with superpowers: have fun with them! Can he fly? Does he have X-ray vision? Can he shoot lightning out of his hands? Can he skip his social studies test? Shazam sets out to test the limits of his abilities with the joyful recklessness of a child. But he’ll need to master these powers quickly in order to fight the deadly forces of evil controlled by Dr. Thaddeus Sivana (Strong).

Shazam! will be released in theaters on April 5, 2019.

Here’s What We Learned On The Set Of DC’s ‘Shazam!’ Movie

Shazam Zachary Levi DC Extended UniverseShazam! I’m writing that because I’ve had to use all the powers of an ancient Egyptian wizard to contain my excitement and prevent me from telling you the things I’m about to tell you at this moment. Back in April, I got the invitation of a lifetime. Warner Brothers, New Line and DC began sending out invitations to the set of the Shazam! movie.

I was lucky enough to be one of the few journalists invited to the set of Shazam! and I have to say I saw some pretty fantastical things. This was Heroic Hollywood’s second set visit and my first time ever visiting a movie set, so as a movie fan, I was excited, and as a DC Comics fan, I was screaming internally.

This was my first time visiting Toronto and it came with such a cool stipulation. The other journalists and I arrived in Toronto on Wednesday, April 17, 2018. We got to enjoy the beautiful city on our first night there and then on Thursday morning, we were up bright and early to visit the set of the film.

It was cold day in Toronto and me and a bunch of other journalists made our way to Pinewood Studios to visit the set of the Shazam! movie. We were directed into this office where they showed us this terrific sizzle reel and told us almost everything about the movie. Now that the embargo has officially lifted, I can finally tell you almost everything we learned on set of Shazam.

There’s a bunch of cool things about Shazam! that you guys have yet to discover and I’m excited to dissect it for you in the following slideshow. Hit next as I reveal almost everything about my Heroic mission to the Shazam! set.
