‘Shazam!’ Concept Artist Reveals Alternate Design For Zachary Levi’s Suit

Shazam Box Office Zachary Levi

A concept artist working for DC and Warner Bros. recently shared an early concept for Zachary Levi’s Shazam and it had even more details than the suit we ultimately saw in the film.

Jerad Marantz is a concept artist that has a plethora of posts regarding his art and praises for the art of other superhero media out there, whether it be Marvel or DC. It seems that Marantz worked closely with DC, Warner Bros., and Shazam! director David Sandberg in order to create the look of suit that Zachary Levi would sport in the film.

Recently Marantz released concept art for how Zachary Levi’s Shazam suit looked early on and it appears to have had much more details than what we eventually saw in the movie. This design from Marantz still has the Greek styled white cape, the bolt of lightning on the chest, and the blazing red jumpsuit. Nevertheless, the jumpsuit itself has even more details different from the one that Zachary Levi used which had some tenuous lines all around it. Check it out:

Here’s the synopsis for Zachary Levi’s Shazam!:

We all have a superhero inside us, it just takes a bit of magic to bring it out. In Billy Batson’s (Angel) case, by shouting out one word—SHAZAM!—this streetwise 14-year-old foster kid can turn into the adult Super Hero Shazam (Levi), courtesy of an ancient wizard. Still a kid at heart—inside a ripped, godlike body—Shazam revels in this adult version of himself by doing what any teen would do with superpowers: have fun with them! Can he fly? Does he have X-ray vision? Can he shoot lightning out of his hands? Can he skip his social studies test? Shazam sets out to test the limits of his abilities with the joyful recklessness of a child. But he’ll need to master these powers quickly in order to fight the deadly forces of evil controlled by Dr. Thaddeus Sivana (Strong).

Directed by David F. Sandberg, Shazam! stars Zachary Levi, Asher Angel, Mark Strong, Jack Dylan Grazer, Grace Fulton, Faithe Herman, Ian Chen, Jovan Armand, Cooper Andrews, Marta Milans and Djimon Hounsou.

After Shazam!, the DCEU continues next year with Birds of Prey (And The Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn) on February 7, 2020, and Wonder Woman 1984 on June 5, 2020. A standalone Joker film set outside of the DC Films universe starring Joaquin Phoenix as the Clown Prince of Crime is also set to hit theaters October 4, 2019.
