She-Hulk: Attorney at Law‘s debut episode has been doing some appropriately hulk-sized numbers for Disney Plus viewership, more than doubling the audience Ms. Marvel received.
She-Hulk premiered on Disney Plus last week, on August 18, and the Tatiana Maslany-led Marvel series has proven a smash hit. The series’ early viewership numbers are comparable to those of Oscar Isaac’s Moon Knight.
The figures have been reported by Samba TV and reveal a promising start for Marvel’s She-Hulk: Attorney at Law.
She-Hulk Smashes On Disney Plus
Samba TV is a service that tracks viewership in the U.S. and reported that She-Hulk: Attorney at Law‘s first episode earned more than double the audience of the recent Ms. Marvel premiere.
Samba TV revealed that She-Hulk‘s first episode gained 1.5 million viewers in the U.S. within the Live+3 window – i.e. within three days of the episode’s release. Obviously, these are not global viewership numbers and not every household is measured, so this should be taken with a small pinch of salt.
In the same window, Ms. Marvel‘s first episode received only 662,000 viewers. Ms. Marvel‘s direct Disney Plus competition from Obi-Wan Kenobi, which released episodes on the same day, and She-Hulk‘s extra star/cameo power may have contributed to the difference in viewership.
Cole Strain, Vice President of Measurement Products at Samba TV, said of She-Hulk‘s premiere figures:
“Disney+ delivered hulk-sized viewership with the premiere of its latest Marvel program She-Hulk. While recent female-led superhero series have been marked by lower viewership, or in the case [of] Batgirl, were canceled altogether, She-Hulk reversed this trend, more than doubling the premiere weekend viewership of the most recent Marvel series, Ms. Marvel, and delivered numbers on par with Moon Knight.
“Stars like Tatiana Maslany and Mark Ruffalo helped make this a big hit with Gen-Z, millennials, Black, and Hispanic households that all over-indexed in their viewership.”
She-Hulk‘s closer ties to existing MCU properties, such as the Hulk, will likely have helped boost the series’ performance, drawing in fans who want to see more of Mark Ruffalo’s Bruce Banner. The star power of Tatiana Maslany, who already has a sizeable fanbase after her work in Orphan Black, is also likely a contributing factor.
Here is the synopsis for She-Hulk: Attorney At Law:
“She-Hulk: Attorney at Law follows Jennifer Walters as she navigates the complicated life of a single, 30-something attorney who also happens to be a green 6-foot-7-inch superpowered hulk.”
Marvel Studios’ She-Hulk: Attorney at Law stars Tatiana Maslany, Mark Ruffalo, Tim Roth, Benedict Wong, Ginger Gonzaga, Josh Segarra, Jameela Jamil, Jon Bass, and Renée Elise Goldsberry.
New episodes of She-Hulk: Attorney At Law premiere every Thursday on Disney Plus. Stay tuned for all the latest news on the series and be sure to subscribe to Heroic Hollywood’s YouTube channel for more original video content.
