Jessica Gao, the head writer of She-Hulk: Attorney at Law, has confirmed that someone at Marvel Studios has the official job of keeping track of the MCU’s timeline.
Keeping track of where every story from Marvel Studios falls within the MCU timeline can be tricky enough for fans, let alone the writers and filmmakers working on Marvel projects. The task of avoiding continuity errors and inconsistencies is apparently aided by an official keeper of the MCU timeline.
Talking about She-Hulk‘s place in the MCU timeline, Jessica Gao revealed that Marvel has taken a proactive approach to ensuring all their projects fit together properly.
Marvel’s Real-Life TVA
In a recent interview with The Direct, She-Hulk: Attorney at Law writer Jessica Gao confirmed how long after Avengers: Endgame the series takes place and revealed there was someone she could check with at Marvel Studios.
She-Hulk sees Mark Ruffalo returning as Smart Hulk, with his arm still injured from using the Infinity Gauntlet when he first appears, confirming the series takes place after Avengers: Endgame. Now Jessica Gao has confirmed the series takes place “a few years after Endgame.”
The She-Hulk writer explained:
“It’s definitely after– post-Endgame. There actually is a Marvel person whose job it is to trace the timeline of everything. And we checked with him a lot about where the timing is. And so it’s like… the show is a few years after Endgame.”
Given the sheer scale of the MCU, which is now seeing multiple Disney Plus series as well as films being released each year, it’s not surprising to hear Marvel Studios has hired someone specifically to keep track of everything.
What may surprise some fans is just how long after Avengers: Endgame the events of She-Hulk: Attorney at Law take place. While enough time had clearly passed for the world to move on from the Blip, the reveal that “a few years” have passed makes it clear that She-Hulk stands in a new era of the MCU.
Here is the synopsis for She-Hulk: Attorney At Law:
“She-Hulk: Attorney at Law follows Jennifer Walters as she navigates the complicated life of a single, 30-something attorney who also happens to be a green 6-foot-7-inch superpowered hulk.”
Marvel Studios’ She-Hulk: Attorney at Law stars Tatiana Maslany, Mark Ruffalo, Tim Roth, Benedict Wong, Ginger Gonzaga, Josh Segarra, Jameela Jamil, Jon Bass, and Renée Elise Goldsberry.
