Simon Kinberg Talks ‘X-Men: Apocalypse’ End Credits Scene

(Very mild spoilers about X-Men: Apocalypse follow. Do not read if you want to see the film completely fresh)

End credit tags have become more and more synonymous with superhero movies, to the point that this year’s surprise smash-hit Deadpool hilariously parodied the concept. X-Men Apocalypse writer/producer Simon Kinberg spoke to Collider about what kind of credit scene fans can expect from the upcoming mutant epic (check out what our Heroic reviewer thought of it here).

While the previous film Days of Future Past used its tag to very specifically tease the arrival of Apocalypse, Kinberg said this new scene is ambiguous enough that it teases a couple different characters.

“It’s a nod toward potentially a lot of different movies. I mean certainly the Wolverine movie is related to what happens at the end of it, but there’s also another character that’s introduced, at least in name, in the tag and he could show up in any host of different X-Men films. Maybe a Gambit movie, maybe another X-Men movie.”

Given this, I’d speculate the scene will involve someone looking at a list or video footage akin to how Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice dealt with its superhero cameos.

X-Men: Apocalypse hits theaters May 27 and the X-Men franchise shows no signs of slowing, with Wolverine 3 in production, The New Mutants casting up, Deadpool 2 being scripted and an X-Force film as well as future installments of the franchise proper in development.
