Is Justin Hartley back as the Green Arrow? The Smallville star has expressed his interest in making a return to the DC Universe as Swashbuckling Archer.
In the modern age of TV vs film continuities, reboots, and the general accumulation of superhero media, there isn’t really a “definitive” version of a character anymore. In the 2000s, that wasn’t exactly the case. Smallville introduced the “definitive” version of dozens of DC Universe characters to fans across the globe, with perhaps the most iconic supporting cast member being Justin Hartley as Green Arrow.
Justin Hartley’s performance in Smallville is likely a big part as to why Green Arrow is as big of a deal among general audiences as he is (especially as Arrow likely got a sizeable boost to its initial numbers from his popularity). When speaking about his past in the DC Universe on The Jennifer Hudson Show, the actor was asked if he’d ever play another superhero. And it seems the odds are in the audience’s favor this time.
“I would love to play a superhero again; I would love that.”
Is Justin Hartley Back As Green Arrow?
Of course, over the decades fan’s have imagined Justin Hartley as dozens of heroes and villains across the DC Universe; from The Flash to Batman himself. However, with the Smallville revival still vaguely promised to happen, many are hoping to see the actor back as Green Arrow. Luckily, it seems to be a wish that the actor shares.
“You know, there are so many interesting ones that have been portrayed, and there are so many interesting ones that haven’t yet been portrayed. What I think would be really cool, though, now that I’m older, I have different life experiences, and I would approach it differently, and I think it would be a different story. I’d like to jump back into that Green Arrow suit on.”
“I mean I’m old, you know. I think you’d find him in a different place and you could tell different stories. He’s been through stuff and um I think it would be interesting. Yeah, I would love that.”
Of course, given James Gunn has said he wants to stay away from the old guard of the DC Universe to avoid confusion among audiences, it’s not likely that Justin Hartley would get the chance to play Green Arrow anywhere outside of a Smallville revival. Though given that, it seems fans have a better chance than not being seeing this become a reality.
