Kingsmen: The Secret Service and The Mummy star Sofia Boutella has joined Zack Snyder’s upcoming Netflix film, Rebel Moon.
After the unfortunate circumstances surrounding his departure from the production of Justice League, Zack Snyder took a hiatus from filmmaking. Over the past few years, the director has come back with a vengeance with Army of the Dead for Netflix, producing a spinoff titled Army of Thieves, and developed and released a new cut of Justice League. Earlier this year it was announced that the director was creating a new IP for the streaming titan in the form of a film titled Rebel Moon.
The film involves a colony that is set on the edge of the galaxy which is threatened by a tyrant known as Balisarius. The colony sends out a young woman to find warriors from other planets in order to drive off Balisarius’ forces. The film primarily takes its inspiration from the works of Akira Kurosawa and was originally envisioned as a more mature Star Wars film that Zack Snyder was developing before Disney acquired the LucasFilm. Now, we know who will more than likely play this young woman.
According to a new report, Sofia Boutella has been cast as the lead for Rebel Moon. The actress is best known for her roles in Kingsman: The Secret Service, Star Trek: Beyond, Atomic Blond, and The Mummy. Zack Snyder was said to have been looking for the Netflix film’s lead for the past few months before narrowing the decision down to a few actressesss. Boutella reportedly wowed the director who quickly came decided to cast her in the lead.
Zack Snyder’s upcoming Netflix film, Rebel Moon currently does not have a release date. Shay Hatten and Kurt Johnstad will be writing the film with Snyder. The director, his wife Deborah Snyder, Wesley Coller, and Eric Newman are set to produce the film.
