This Is Only ‘Sonic The Hedgehog’ Movie Redesign You’ll Hate Looking At More Than The Original

Sonic The Hedgehog Detective Pikachu Ben SchwartzA Sonic the Hedgehog fan artist took it upon themselves to completely redesign the film’s protagonist so badly, it makes the original almost look good.

Sonic the Hedgehog, which stars Jim Carrey and James Marsden, was originally set to hit theaters  this fall. But as you all may know, the Sonic movie received major backlash from fans who completely ripped Sonic’s design for his live-action debut. The famous blue Hedgehog looked absolutely nothing like his video game form, and this upset fans to the point that the film’s director, Jeff Fowler, revealed that the studio would delay its release to redesign the characte.

Ben Schwartz, the actor who lends his voice to the titular character, teased that Sonic would now resemble his classic video game look upon the film’s release. The original Sonic design that fans outright hated had strange features, including teeth, his face, and even his body.

Fan artists on the web have already shared many of examples of how an accurate take on Sonic could look on the big screen. Some said their design of Sonic took only minutes to complete. But unfortunately, some fan artists can’t fix the film’s horrible design. The fan art below may induce nightmares for Sonic fans. You might want to cover your eyes. This is your last chance!

Yikes. This is definitely the worst design for SEGA’s most popular character. Fans hoping the Sonic the Hedgehog movie will deliver the blue speedster to the big screen with the justice he deserves will not be happy about this one. Truth is, they might just prefer the official Paramount Pictures design over this atrocity.

So what do you think of this version of Sonic? Is it really worse than the original movie design? Let us know in the comments below!

The Sonic the Hedgehog film will follow Small-town sheriff Tom Wachowski and the titular character as they embark on a road trip to San Francisco in a race to recover the blue hedgehog’s rings before the villainous Dr. Robotnik. Westworld actor James Marsden stars in the film along with Ben Schwartz who provides the voice for the film’’s Sonic.

Here is the official synopsis for Sonic the Hedgehog:

SONIC THE HEDGEHOG is a live-action adventure comedy based on the global blockbuster video game franchise from Sega that centres on the infamously brash bright blue hedgehog. The film follows the (mis)adventures of Sonic as he navigates the complexities of life on Earth with his newfound – human – best friend Tom Wachowski (James Marsden). Sonic and Tom join forces to try and stop the villainous Dr. Robotnik (Jim Carrey) from capturing Sonic and using his immense powers for world domination.

Directed by Jeff Fowler from a script written by Patrick Casey, Josh Miller, and Oren Uziel, Sonic the Hedgehog features the voice talent of Ben Schwartz as the titular character and stars James Marsden as sheriff Tom Wachowski, Jim Carrey as Dr. Ivo Robotnik, Neal McDonough as US Army Major Bennington, Tika Sumpter as Mrs. Wachowski, Lee Majdoub as Stone, and Frank C. Turner as Crazy Carl. Adam Pally, Natasha Rothwell, Debs Howard, and Elfina Luk also star in undisclosed roles.

Sonic the Hedgehog will be released in theaters on February 14, 2020.

Veteran X-Men producer Simon Kinberg makes his directorial debut with Dark Phoenix in addition to producing the film with Hutch Parker, Lauren Schuler Donner and Todd Hallowell. Dark Phoenix is expected to be Fox's final X-Men film featuring the core X-Men cast in the cinematic universe launched by director Bryan Singer in 2000 with the Disney-Fox merger now complete.

X-Men: Dark Phoenix stars James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence, Nicholas Hoult, Tye Sheridan, Sophie Turner, Alexandra Shipp, Kodi Smit-McPhee, Evan Peters, and Jessica Chastain. Here's the film's synopsis:

“This is the story of one of the X-Men’s most beloved characters, Jean Grey, as she evolves into the iconic DARK PHOENIX.  During a life-threatening rescue mission in space, Jean is hit by a cosmic force that transforms her into one of the most powerful mutants of all.  Wrestling with this increasingly unstable power as well as her own personal demons, Jean spirals out of control, tearing the X-Men family apart and threatening to destroy the very fabric of our planet.  The film is the most intense and emotional X-Men movie ever made. It is the culmination of 20 years of X-Men movies, as the family of mutants that we’ve come to know and love must face their most devastating enemy yet — one of their own.”

Dark Phoenix is set to hit theaters on June 7, 2019. Stay tuned to Heroic Hollywood for the latest news on the future of the X-Men.

  • SvenyTheFox

This is horrible journalism! 0 research done.
The reddit post is a misleading fake, it is actually a fan-made design. The redesign has not been released yet.

    • Chucky

The new trailer had been released a while ago. It’s looks very cartoonish now. YouTube has it.

      • SvenyTheFox

Send a link? I haven’t seen it released.

        • Chucky

I first saw it on trailers compilation from kino trailers. This is what I saw. Not sure if real. But Sega went after anyone posting fakes and commentary

          • Benis

            That one is fanmade

          • SvenyTheFox

That is also a fanmade, considering it wasn’t posted by paramount pictures and everyone knows the original creator.

    • Adrastos

      Stfu stop contacting my wife

      • SvenyTheFox

I’m afraid women is not my interest Adrastos :)

    • Mr.Netch

But they say, that it’s fan made, so I don’t see the problem

      • SvenyTheFox

Ha! I just noticed, the clickbait is real.

So basically I don’t even know what’s better now, because they’re dissing art, they made an article to diss fanmade art.

    • MadameMidlifeCrisis

Is reading something longer than 140 characters too hard for you??? While the story is clickbaity trash, they explain that the picture was done by a “fan,” & it is definitely nightmare fuel. I think Mister Metokur’s video is the best to sum up the original rendition of Sonic & the craptastic storyline planned.

      • SvenyTheFox

It isn’t, I just didn’t read it at all as soon as I saw the picture because I thought nobody would be idiotic enough to make an article bashing fanmade art so I assumed it’s what they thought the new redesign was.

Yes it’s terrible but I don’t think it’s good to shun fanmade art like that.

        • liza

1 yr back I decided to just leave my old job and I am so delightful nowadays…. I started off working on the net, for business entity I found on-line, only a few hour regularly, and I bring home way more than I actually did on my office job… previous thirty days was $9,000… The best thing regarding this is the additional leisure time I obtained for my children…and that the only requirement for this gig is basic typing as well as accessibility to internet… I am capable to put in quality time with my close relatives or buddies and take care of my little kids as well as going on a family vacation with them really consistently. Don’t skip this chance and try to take action quick. Try it out, what it’s about…

      • Mob Moby

Actually @MadameMidlifeCrisis this article was posted about a couple days ago under a different title and in that post the author states that this would be the legitimate design used in the actual movie. No mention of the fact that it is a fan redesign at all, this is a comment from when the article was a big piece of misinformation. There was no mention of this being fan art the edit prior to this, it was meant to be a serious rant about the new sonic design FOR THE MOVIE as the author put it

        • MadameMidlifeCrisis

No matter, I stand by what I’ve said. Too many people see pictures & overlook/ignore/refuse to read the story & go on screechfests. I don’t care what they do to this movie to remake Sonic; it is & will remain being garbage. Making cartoons into live action flicks is ALWAYS a bad idea. Putting in Gangsta Rap songs in said movies makes it even worse. This movie is a bad idea on so many levels but, yay Hollyweird circle jerks!

  • IntRudder

Click baiting son of a biscuit cow.

  • Chameleon

i liked the part where you made an article just to make fun of some fanart. a+ journalism there, guys.

  • Nifty Warehouse

This is NOT the sonic redesign from the upcoming sonic movie! The artist has clarified that this is just fan art!

  • Ruckert

This is why you should use ad-blockers kids.

    • SvenyTheFox

      I’m glad I have a network-wide adblock.

  • Punkizm

Literally a website in the corner for a 3D company. Nice work “journalist” 👌🏼

  • Lïnk Hylîan

I’m really sorry if you think this is real-

  • Paul Gray

This story has to be satire, if they actually believe that post was official they clearly have no brain

  • Smeg

Is this a satire website or did you really pick this up and run with it as if it were real? I’m laughing either way, but I’m not sure that you’re in on the joke.

  • Pangalaktichki

Fake news, clickbait, “reporting” on obvious parody from reddit. Blocking this.

  • Garnium

You deserve to be fired for spreading blatant lies and giving a bad name to your profession and your website.

    • SvenyTheFox

    • Peter James

      What “profession”?

Collecting lame fan art and posting even lamer fan theories?

Calling what they do here a “profession” is a joke.

  • WatsonTheScot

    Great journalism there, Francisco.

  • A Big ol’ Chump

High quality journalism right here folks!

    • Peter James

Calling what they do on this site ‘journalism’ is an insult to whatever it is that people who work at Tabloids like National Enquirer do (which is not journalism either,…..just so we’re clear. But it’s still several steps higher than whatever nonsense they do on this site).

  • Justin Dale

This would probably be a fine design for a net navi.

  • Sire Joe

People need to stop using the word “journalism” when commenting on this site. Im not sure why its so hard to find a good superhero/animation movie website but all the ones I have looked at utterly suck. This one included. Posts about fan made art? Are you kidding me? I honestly dont know why I give this place hits. Anyone have any better places to go to?

    • SvenyTheFox

      Just a few.

    • Peter James

That’s all they do in this place, my dude.

Fan Art and Fan theories “stories”

      Clickbait at its worst.

  • Pingu

    oh no

  • Peter James

You and Hereoichollywood are getting royally roasted on that Reddit site you just linked to.

    Talk about a Self-Own.

This is what they do here, guys.
I see a lot of new people have logged onto the comments, probably redirected from Reddit.

    This is their schitck
Making up “articles” out of dumb stuff like Fan Art (lots of Superman costume art……definitely nothing homoerotic about their obsession with Superman/Henry Cavill here. Definitely nothing. …/s)
Lots of dumb fan theories – completely unsourced.
And occasionally they’ll do movie news that other more serious legitimate sites will have reported days ago.

    All for the Almighty Clickbait.
And it actually worked this time.
This is the most traffic they’ve gotten in almost a decade.

    It’s their jam.

1 yr ago I decided to give up my past work and I am so joyful these days…. • Huntaro

This was obviously just a joke, you dont need to write 2 pages of goddamn complaints. I was so bored I didn’t even read less than half. Stop wasting people’s time with this junk.

  • butthead

    and delete my comment hahahaha

terrible article with misinformation. get a real job francisco your not very good at this one

  • Alec Thaggard

    Oh yeah. It’s WAY worse!
