New ‘Sonic The Hedgehog’ TV Spot Name-Drops Dwayne Johnson

Sonic Dwayne Johnson The Rock

A brand new television spot for the live-action Sonic the Hedgehog movie name-drops Dwayne Johnson.

With the release date for the live-action Sonic film rapidly approaching, the marketing team seems to be racing to the finish line to get as much Sonic content out there as possible! Now set to hit theatres on Valentines Day, the live-action Sonic film is finally finding its groove with fans after they rebelled against Sonic’s original look. Realizing the fault in their execution, Paramount and co. went back to the drawing board to give Sonic the authentic look fans wanted from the get-go. Now that Sonic looks just about alright, the marketing machine has begun to churn out promotional material for the upcoming film.

In a brand new spot released on Twitter, we see Sonic flex his comedic muscles, as well as name-drop everyone’s favourite celebrity,  Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson. In the spot, Sonic asks “What year is it?” followed by “Is The Rock president?”. Of course, The Rock isn’t the president at the moment, but all of that could change if Sonic decides to become his running Vice-President.

You can check out the Sonic spot that name-drops The Rock below.

Of course, as cordial as he is, Dwayne Johnson responded to Sonic name-dropping him in this latest spot. In the tweet, Dwayne Johnson mentions how he used to play Sonic back in college and how surreal it is to have the famous blue hedgehog name-drop him in a movie.

This is surely a win-win for both Dwayne Johnson and the Sonic film, as the latter has just secured a big celebrity to help market it when it comes out in February. As for Dwayne Johnson, any cultural mention of him being president is enough to further his brand as the likeable hero that he’s come out to be.
