Is Spider-Man: Brand New Day going to be peak? Sony Pictures executive Tim Rothman teases that the movie may be better than fans expect, building major hype for a potential trailer.

Casual fans were sitting on the edge of their seat during the Super Bowl expecting to see trailers for the biggest blockbusters of the year, which included Spider-Man: Brand New Day. Sadly, many major studios opted to skip out on promoting their tentpole releases at the big game, leaving fans worried that the film may not be as good as some expect.

Luckily, before the Super Bowl started up, Sony Pictures chairman and CEO Tim Rothman made an appearance at the debut of their upcoming animated film Goat. While there, Rothman managed to build more hype for Spider-Man: Brand New Day than a trailer ever could (though a trailer would certainly be nice!) by calling it “surprising” and “amazing”.

“We have not seen a cut yet, I have seen all the dailies. I think it’s going to be one of the most surprising and terrific movies, as a movie, an incredible Spider-Man movie, and Destin [Daniel Cretton] has done a tremendous job, tremendous!”

The Lofty Expectations Of Spider-Man

For as exciting as it is to be in a time where fans haven’t even seen a trailer for Spider-Man: Brand New Day, it’s important that fans temper their expectations. Spider-Man has always had a LOT riding on him, putting out major box office hits even when the rest of Marvel Studios is struggling. And in an era of superhero fatigue and American hostility with the rest of the world, it’s possible that the film might underperform when compared to previous installments.

With this in mind, it’s possible that Spider-Man: Brand New Day suffers in the same way as Superman. It’s a project that did as expected, if not better, domestically, but underperformed in international markets. So even when the trailer does come, it’s important to hype responsibly and not put loftier expectations on the movie than it’s likely to achieve.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day swings into theaters July 31st, 2026. Stay tuned for the latest news regarding Spider-Man’s Marvel Cinematic Universe future!
