Is Sony’s Spider-Man universe for television already sinking? The studio has reportedly split with Spider-Verse producers Phil Lord and Chris Miller following budget disputes about Spider-Man Noir.
It seems Spider-Man fans were foolish in believing Sony could do anything right with the IP. A few years back, it was revealed that Spider-Verse writers and producers Phil Lord and Chris Miller would bring the webhead to the small screen, with the first projects announced being focused on Silk and Spider-Man Noir.
In traditional fashion to Sony’s Spider-Man projects, Silk went through years of development hell before being canned. In contrast, Spider-Man Noir seemed to be running smoothly, with pre-production on the series ramping up. However, it seems Phil Lord and Chris Miller are feeling some trouble in paradise as they continue to work on the next Spider-Verse film.
Sony’s Spider-Man Noir Hits Budget Bumps
While Spider-Man Noir seems to be enjoying a sizeable budget in getting Nicolas Cage to star in the series, it seems Sony isn’t ready to clear their coffers for Phil Lord and Chris Miller. A new report by Puck reveals that there was a heated debate over the show’s budget, and now Sony is not expected to renew their deal with the Spider-Verse producers for television.
This doesn’t mean much for the remaining Spider-Verse film that Phil Lord and Chris Miller owe Sony. However, it does mean that the studio’s ambitions to see Spider-Man take over television are all but dead in the water. It’s not likely that Spider-Man Noir will go the way of Silk given the all-star cast, but at this point, anything is possible when it comes to how badly Sony can fumble the bag.
