A brand new clip from the upcoming X-Men film, Dark Phoenix, reveals Sophie Turner’s Jean Grey unleashed as she wreaks havoc in Genosha.

The new X-Men film takes another stab at the classic Dark Phoenix saga following the franchise’s first attempt with X-Men: The Last Stand. The comic book storyline features Jean Grey struggling to control and succumbing to the Phoenix Force within her. In addition, Dark Phoenix will also feature the big screen debut of Genosha, a sanctuary for mutants Magneto helped claim from the Genoshan government in the comics.

The new clip which Sophie Turner debuted on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon features Jean Grey seemingly coming to the aid of Micahel Fassbender’s Magneto as she takes on the Genoshan military, destroying a helicopter as seen in the trailers. Veteran X-Men producer Simon Kinberg makes his directorial debut with the film in addition to producing the film with Hutch Parker and Lauren Schuler Donner. Dark Phoenix is likely to be Fox’s final X-Men film featuring the core X-Men cast in the cinematic universe launched by director Bryan Singer in 2000 before the film series is rebooted under the Marvel and Disney umbrella. The film has been rumored to come in at a costly $200 million for the studio due to reshoots that reworked the film’s third act.

Dark Phoenix was originally scheduled to hit theaters on November 2, 2018, before being pushed back the first to February 14, 2019. Due to the reshoots, the film’s release date was pushed back again to June 7, 2019, to allow time to complete work on the film’s visual effects.

Here is the plot synopsis for the upcoming film:

This is the story of one of the X-Men’s most beloved characters, Jean Grey, as she evolves into the iconic DARK PHOENIX. During a life-threatening rescue mission in space, Jean is hit by a cosmic force that transforms her into one of the most powerful mutants of all. Wrestling with this increasingly unstable power as well as her own personal demons, Jean spirals out of control, tearing the X-Men family apart and threatening to destroy the very fabric of our planet. The film is the most intense and emotional X-Men movie ever made. It is the culmination of 20 years of X-Men movies, as the family of mutants that we’ve come to know and love must face their most devastating enemy yet — one of their own.

Written and directed by Simon Kinberg, Dark Phoenix stars James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence, Nicholas Hoult, Sophie Turner, Tye Sheridan, Alexandra Shipp, Kodi Smit-McPhee, Evan Peters, and Jessica Chastain.

Dark Phoenix will be released in theaters on June 7, 2019.
