Is Spider-Man 4 actually happening? The Batman writer Mattson Tomlin suggests that the film may be closer to reality than many people think.
For years, people have been begging for a proper Spider-Man 4 with Tobey Maguire. However, interest in the idea has flared up in recent years for two reasons. The first is Maguire making his long-awaited return to the role in Spider-Man: No Way Home. The second is the success of Ultimate Spider-Man, which put the focus on a much older version of Peter Parker with a wife and kids.
Yet what makes his special when compared to other ‘never meant to be’ superhero films like The Amazing Spider-Man 3 and The Snyderverse is that Spider-Man 4 may actually have someone working toward making it a reality right now. The Batman writer Mattson Tomlin has written multiple times on social media that he’d want to do a Spider-Man 4 focused on an older version of Spider-Man, first making a post about it back in July.
“Honestly right now my main interest in this respect would be to write a Spider-Man 4 where Tobey’s Spider-Man is juggling being a husband and a father. Spider-Man as a father is where I gravitate towards given the last 8 films.”

Spider-Man 4 Hasn’t Been Shot Down Yet
New developments from Mattson Tomlin have been even more interesting. The Batman writer has been active on social media, and has such been asked if there’s been any progress on making Spider-Man 4 a reality. Shockingly, it seems he’s been making some headway with his connections, remarking that he hasn’t been told “no” so far.
“Slow and steady wins the race,” Tomlin wrote on social media. “There won’t be anything to say about that for a long time (if ever!) because it involves a lot of people and politics and things going right that have nothing to do with me, but I haven’t gotten a ‘no’ yet!”
Of course, it would likely be years before any official confirmation reveals that Spider-Man 4 is in development- if it even is. Mattson Tomlin also has a rather full plate, likely working on projects in The Batman universe such as a third film or spin-offs like The Penguin. This not to mention any personal projects the writer may want to bring to life in the meanwhile.
